Bowen, Jay Eugene


Jay Eugene Bowen 1923 ~ 2009 Jay Eugene Bowen passed from this life surrounded by his family on September 11, 2009 at Pioneer Valley Medical Center. He was born on December 5, 1923 in Rupert Idaho to John Henry Bowen and Sarah Stewart. He had five siblings; May R Brown, William R Bowen, Zina Woolsey (Ross), Idona Jackson, and Joyce Maughan. He grew up in Cedar City Utah and served a mission in the Southern States for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1948. He married Donna Jessie Stokes on September 16th 1949 from this union he had three wonderful children; JaAnna, John, and James Bowen. They later divorced. He married Frances Draney on September 3, 1970 and they had a beautiful daughter Rejli JaLeen Dawn Wodecki. Frances had eight children she brought into this union; Vicki, Rebecca, David, Brenda, Janiel, Neal, Todd and Britt. Frances passed away June 2 1994. He married Norma Bates on August 28, 1999 Norma brought two children into this union; John and Judy. Jay loved music and was a drummer and played in several bands entertaining many with his talent, he was also a gifted dancer and delighted his daughters and granddaughters as he escorted them to many daddy daughter dates and school functions. He was a member of the Mormon Battalion and loved participating in parades, dressed in full uniform carrying the flag. He was an electrician by trade and worked for the Salt Lake City Traffic Signal division. He was active in his church and served in various callings on a ward and Stake level and was a temple worker at the Jordan River Temple. He loved to hunt camp and participate in any outdoor activities. He left behind a large posterity of 14 children, 71 grandchildren and 143 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife Frances, and his step son David Loyal Kunz and step daughter in law LuAnn Dean Kunz. He is survived by his children JaAnna Nelson (Lynn), currently serving a mission in Mexico, John Henry Bowen (Louise) West Jordan UT, James Douglas Bowen (Janet) SLC UT, Rejli JaLeen Wodecki (Scott) Phoenix AZ, Vickie Allred (Evan) Peoa UT, Rebecca Bonner (Larry) Sandy UT, Brenda Forbes (Ray) St. George UT, Janiel Eldredge (Steve) Las Vegas NV, Neal Kunz (Loretta) West Jordan UT, Todd Kunz (Anna) St. George, UT, Britt Hawker (Craig) Sandy UT, John Bates (Cynthia) Taylorsville UT, Judy West (Stephen) Millcreek UT. Jay will be missed by his family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Monday September 14, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kearns 3rd Ward Chapel 4731 South 4300 West Kearns UT. Funeral services will be under the direction of SereniCare Funeral Home. A viewing for family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday September 14, prior to funeral services. Interment will be at the Sandy City Cemetery. His family would like to thank the kind nurses and staff of Pioneer Valley Medical Center Intensive care unit.
