- Birth: Area is now called Mt Emmons
Occupation: Accountant and Farmer
Burial: Blufdale City Cemetery
Walter was a farmer and an accountant. He was born on the banks of Lake Fork River near the place where the town of Mt. Emmons, Duchesne County, Utah; stands today. His father and uncle pioneered the opening of that area for homesteading. His early life was spent riding horse, exploring Indian paintings, fishing, and herding cows. His early schooling was in a log school house; he attended school at Bluebell and then at Mt. Emmons.
It was at that point in his life when the first notable tragedy occurred. The family had just moved back to their home on the ranch from having wintered in Mt. Emmons. The house was cold from having been lived in during the winter months. So having unpacking the first load of belongings, they started a large fire to warm up the house until they returned with the second load. Just they were leaving they looked back and saw that the house was on fire. Pork stored in barrels and honey in cans had been placed in the attic.
The containers had exploded and honey dripped down through the ceiling; the fire was so they had to stand by while the house burned to the ground- nothing was saved.
The family then moved to Salt Lake City, where Walter Leon finished his schooling. Walter graduated from L.D.S. College and attended B.Y.U. in Provo. He has filled many church positions, scouting positions, and community leadership jobs.
