!James had private schooling. Was a member of the Episscopal Church and was a
Gentleman Justice in both Elizabeth City and York County. He was a farmer of
note, operating a Plantation in Elizabeth City County to the East of what is
now Armistead Avenue and North of Tidemill Lane. Martha Jones Collier was his
third wife, having first married Ann Maria Lively, who died without issue.
His second marriage was with Jane Haskins of Edenton, North CArolina and had
seven children by this marriage. His third marriage was with Marth, widow of
Charles Lockey Collier, Jr. James served ably in the Confederate Army.
