A descendant, Noraye Sinclaire recalls stories from her grandmother Alice Ewell about Thomas. He left the family and was believed to have been killed by indians in Missouri. So Marinda remarries, thinking he has died. Many years later, he just shows up, in his old age, to die near his family. He, like his father, is suspected to have fathered other children in the years he was absent.
